Karen Smeets, Portfolio Manager at Rejuvenate Biomed, is responsible for managing the high-level scope and timelines of R&D activities and for project alignment. In addition, she is leading all external communications, for which she organizes and creates content for varying purposes, such as conferences, press releases, websites, and social media. Karen also manages business intelligence data retrieval and analysis, transforming data to insights. She has 8 years of experience in scientific project planning and project management related to drug development. She started her career at the consultancy company CMAST (now Modis), where she was assigned to several projects at biotech and pharmaceutical companies such as Galapagos and Johnson & Johnson. She was involved in both the discovery as well as the development of new molecular entities, for which she was responsible to manage scope, timelines, budget, and project team engagement. In 2018, Karen obtained her PMP (Project Management Professional) certification at the Project Management Institute. She holds a master’s degree in Bioscience Engineering (Food Science & Technology) from the University of Leuven (KU Leuven), Belgium.
