Matthias Rieckher, PhD
Dr. Matthias Rieckher is a Lead Scientist at Rejuvenate Biomed. In this role, he is responsible for setting up and managing the research lab at the Health Campus in BioVille, Diepenbeek. The current focus of the lab is the development of a C. elegans platform to screen new drugs that have therapeutic potential to promote healthy aging. Previously, Matthias worked as Senior Scientist at the CECAD, University Hospital Cologne, in the Schumacher lab, where he focused his research on the molecular biology of DNA damage responses in aging. Furthermore, he was responsible for lab safety, and the supervision and training of students at the University of Cologne, where he continues to give lectures. Over the past 15 years, Matthias gained experience in molecular biology, biotechnology, neurobiology, the genetics of ageing, DNA damage responses and 3D microscopy, with a proven track-record of 22 peer-reviewed publications or book chapters. Matthias holds a German engineer diploma in Biochemistry (Dipl.-Ing FH) from the University of Applied Sciences, Mannheim, Germany, and a PhD and MSc degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from the University of Crete, Greece.
