The current focus of the lab is the development of a C. elegans platform to screen new drugs that have therapeutic potential to promote healthy aging. Previously, Matthias worked as Senior Scientist at the CECAD, University Hospital Cologne, in the Schumacher lab, where he focused his research on the molecular biology of DNA damage responses in aging. Furthermore, he was responsible for lab safety, and the supervision and training of students at the University of Cologne, where he continues to give lectures. Over the past 15 years, Matthias gained experience in molecular biology, biotechnology, neurobiology, the genetics of ageing, DNA damage responses and 3D microscopy, with a proven track-record of 22 peer-reviewed publications or book chapters.
